Bio

michael-black Michael Black is a painter, writer, and drummer who lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design in 2001, Michael has focused his artistic process on painting and the development of a unique three-dimensional impasto technique for the application of acrylic paint. Inviting inspiration from North and South American shamanism, Tibetan Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, Michael creates colorful iconographic images celebrating the wonderful wisdom found within all faiths. He also paints landscapes and floral images, believing that the beauty of nature is another entrance into enlightenment. His paintings can be found in private collections throughout Canada, the United States of America, Italy, and Israel. In 2003, Michael had the amazing privelege of giving his painting “Camellia” to Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, and in 2005 giving his painting “Water Of Life” to U.S. President Bill Clinton. In 2006, Michael’s painting “Om Mani Padme Hum” was blessed by His Holiness The Dalai Lama and is displayed above the open kitchen at Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill in Vancouver. Michael is currently working with Chiropractic Doctor Steven R. Passmore in a new series of paintings exploring the anatomy of the spine.
